BHUTAN DAGALA TREK OVERVIEW

Explore the famed Thousand Lake Trek, situated in the Thimphu district, renowned for its pristine beauty. Commencing from Genekha and concluding at Chamgang, this approximately 50-kilometer trek encompasses four passes, one of which is a high-altitude pass exceeding 4,500 meters. It serves as an excellent initiation to alpine trekking at lofty altitudes.

Unveil the breathtaking Dagala Trek, often referred to as the 'Thousand Lakes Trek,' where you'll encounter an array of immaculate, crystalline lakes. Over four days, you'll journey through an area adorned with numerous crystal-clear lakes, where you'll witness panoramic vistas of the entire Himalayan mountain range. As you wander through these shimmering natural wonders, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring vistas of the entire Himalayan mountain range, including iconic peaks like Mt. Everest, Jomolhari, Masang Gang, Jichu Drake, Gangche Ta, and more. A dedicated day of the trek allows for exploration, fishing, and relaxation at the picturesque lakes.

While trekking, you'll also pass through several traditional Bhutanese villages, offering a glimpse into the charming village life. Although this trek entails a moderate level of physical challenge, the serenity and natural splendor of the landscape make every effort worthwhile. The optimal periods for embarking on this adventure are between April to June and September to October. Immerse yourself in the enchanting splendor of this remarkable journey.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY

At Found Bhutan Tours and Treks, we do not take our guests on a virtual tour before arriving in Bhutan. We want our guests to fully explore and experience Bhutan first-hand. Therefore, we keep our itinerary short and less descriptive.

Your adventure commences in the enchanting Gynekha village, where the journey kicks off with a brief descent towards the river. Upon crossing the river, you'll embark on an ascent that eventually leads you to a substantial rock platform, offering a captivating view of the valley beneath. Following two more hours of trekking, you'll arrive at Gur, an idyllic expanse of yak pastures situated just below the primary trail.

Start elevation: Approx. 2800 meters.
Campsite elevation: Approx. 4250 meters.
Pass: Pagalabtsa, Approx. 4200 meters.

Drive to nearby Attractions:

Distance: 18 Kms | Trek Time: 7-9 Hours

Today's itinerary comprises a scenic loop around a cluster of pristine alpine lakes, showcasing a total of 10 picturesque lakes in varying sizes. This captivating journey offers a delightful exploration of nature's beauty and tranquility.

Embark on a trail that ascends the western side of Dala Tsho, reaching a high point at 4,520 meters. From this vantage point, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the grandeur of the Himalayan peaks as you begin your descent. The visible mountain peaks include renowned names like Mt. Everest in Nepal, Mt. Kanchenjunga in Sikkim, as well as Mt. Jomolhari, Mt. Jichu Drake, Mt. Tshering Gang, Mt. Khangbum, Mt. Masang Gang, Mt. Tsende Gang, and Mt. Gangche Ta.

For an even more spectacular vista, you have the option to ascend a nearby peak, which stands at an altitude of 4,720 meters, close to the saddle. After descending from the saddle, the path leads you past yak herder huts and along the Doccha Chhu river. While following the river for a portion of the trek, you'll maintain a higher elevation on the slope, eventually reaching Panka. The journey involves a series of ascents and descents, ensuring a memorable trekking experience.

High pass: Approx. Labajong, Approx. 4500 meters.

Trek from Labatama to Pangkha:

Distance: 9 Km | Trek Time: 4-6 Hours

Places & Attractions:

Dala Tsho (lake), Himalayang Peaks (Mt. Everest, Mt. Kangchenjunga, Mt. Jomolhari, Mt. Jichu Drake, Mt. Tsherign Gang, Mt. Khangum)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Accommodation: Camping Tents.

On this day, your journey involves crossing multiple passes, with no significant uphill climbs required. Be sure to stay observant for diverse species of the vibrant blue poppy, particularly during the months of June and July. Additionally, keep an eye out for the enchanting mountain birds that inhabit this region.

Following the crossing of the final pass, Tale La, which stands at 4,180 meters, your path takes you on a substantial descent leading to Talakha Gompa. Your campsite will be positioned right alongside the monastery, offering a unique opportunity to wake up to the early morning prayers of the resident monks. Moreover, this location provides a splendid panoramic view of Bhutan's capital, Thimphu, creating a memorable and serene experience.

Pass: Talela, Approx. 4200 meters.
Trail end elevation: Approx. 2750 meters.

Trek from Pangkha to Chamgang:

Distance: 17 Km | Trek Time: 7-8 Hours

Places & Attractions:

Talakha Gompa, panaramic view of the capital city of Bhutan - Thimphu

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Accommodation: Hotel in Thimphu.

Payment Terms

  • To confirm your tour with Found Bhutan Tours and Treks, the full payment for the tour package is required before the approval of your VISA.
Tour Cancellation & Refund Policy
  • Cancellation of tour in less than 7 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - No Refund.
  • Cancellation of tour in between 7 to 14 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - 50% of the total tour cost will be refunded.
  • Cancellation of tour in between 15 to 30 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - 80% of the total tour cost will be refunded.
  • Cancellation of the tour in more than 30 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - 100% of the total tour cost will be refunded.
Flight Ticket Cancellation & Refund Policy
  • The Flight ticket cancellation & refund policy shall be subject to the respective Airline's cancellation policies.
Rescheduling Tour Dates
  • You may reschedule your travel dates free of charge; however, based on your revised travel dates, the minimum daily rates, accommodation charges, and airline fees may change.
Notes
  • For any refunds, the applicable transaction charges shall be levied from the beneficiary.
  • The Bhutan SDF will be fully refunded by the Department of Immigration. However, the VISA fee is non-refundable.
