The Jomolhari Trek is one of Bhutan's most iconic and challenging high-altitude treks, offering breathtaking views of Mt. Jomolhari, which stands at 7,326 meters. This trek typically spans 7-10 days, leading adventurers through diverse landscapes ranging from lush valleys and rhododendron forests to alpine meadows and glacial rivers. Along the way, trekkers experience Bhutan's rich culture, passing by ancient monasteries, remote yak herder settlements, and the sacred Jomolhari Base Camp. The trek offers not only stunning natural beauty but also a profound sense of serenity and isolation in Bhutan's pristine wilderness.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

At Found Bhutan Tours and Treks, we do not take our guests on a virtual tour before arriving in Bhutan. We want our guests to fully explore and experience Bhutan first-hand. Therefore, we keep our itinerary short and less descriptive.

Your First Glimpse of Bhutan: In Paro Valley, your first glimpse of Bhutan includes arriving at Paro International Airport, exploring the Rinpung Dzong (Fortress of Heaped Jewels), and visiting the National Museum. You'll also enjoy a hike to Zuri and discover Kyichu Lhakhang before spending the night at your hotel in Paro.

Hike to the Tiger's Nest Monastery: You'll embark on a 3-hour uphill hike to reach the Tiger's Nest monastery, followed by a 2-hour descent. Afterward, you can relax with a traditional hot stone bath and enjoy or practice a game of archery. You will then spend the night at your hotel in Paro.

Sharna Zampa to Soe Thangthangkha: After driving for about an hour from Paro, you will reach the road-end at Sharna Zampa (Bridge). The actual trek begins from Sharna Zampa till Soe Thangthangkha. The distance from Sharna Zampa to Soe Thangthangkha is about 22 kilometers and the trek will take approximately 7 to 8 hours. The trek from Sharna Zampa to Soe Thangthangkha is relatively moderate through the beautiful forests of rhododendron, oak, bamboo and ferns in the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Park. The campsite is at a meadow at an altitue of around 3,610 meters. Enjoy the view of Mt. Jomolhari from your campsite on a clear day.

Soe Thangthangkha to Jangothang (Jomokhari Basecamp): Starting early, the trail ascends through alpine meadows and stunted vegetation, offering views of Mount Jomolhari. Along the way, you’ll pass an army outpost, yak herder homes, and enjoy breathtaking mountain vistas. The route also takes you through the highland villages of Soe, Takethang, and Dangochang, where you can experience the unique highlander culture. The day ends at Jangothang, the campsite at the base of the majestic Mount Jomolhari, the abode of the protective deity Jomo.The trek covers a distance of about 19 kilometers, taking about 5 to 6 hours, with the campsite situated at an elevation of 4,080 meters.

Jangothang Basecamp Excursion: Today will be spent acclimatizing at Jangothang, with opportunities to explore the nearby Jomolhari Base and the Tshophu twin lakes. You’ll also visit the local highland communities and engage with the Highlanders, learning about their way of life.

Jangothang - Lingzhi: After a day of rest and acclimatization, the 18 km trek resumes, taking 6 to 7 hours and leading to a campsite at 4,010 meters. The trail follows a stream for half an hour before crossing a bridge to the right bank, offering breathtaking views of Jomolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tserimgang. It continues along a relatively flat valley before ascending to the Nyele-la pass at 4,700 meters. From there, you'll descend gradually to the campsite at Lingshi, with stunning close-up views of mountain peaks and Lingzhi Dzong along the way.

Lingzhi - Shodu: The 22 km trek, taking 8 to 9 hours, leads through the Yeli-la Pass at 4,820 meters, offering views of the mountains and Himalayan ranges. After crossing the pass, you'll descend alongside a stream, passing a rock shelter on a cliff face, and continue downstream until you reach your campsite near a chorten (stupa) at Shodu, at an altitude of 4,080 meters.

Shodu - Barshong: On this 16 km trek, taking about 6 to 7 hours, you’ll follow the Thimphu Chhu (Thimphu River), descending through vibrant rhododendron, juniper, and mixed alpine forests. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of rocky cliffs and waterfalls. The trail gradually ascends to the ruins of Barshong Dzong at 3,600 meters, where you'll camp nearby at an altitude of 3,710 meters.

Barshong - Dolam Kencho - Dodena - Thimphu: The 15 km trek, taking 5 to 6 hours, leads through dense rhododendron, birch, and conifer forests, eventually meeting the Thimphu Chhu river. A final climb takes you along a cliff and through pastureland with conifer and broadleaf vegetation. The trek ends at Dolam Kencho, where you meet your driver for a 1.5-hour drive to your hotel in Thimphu.

Exploring the Capital of Bhutan On your Thimphu excursion, you'll visit the Buddha Dordenma Statue, stop by the Motithang Takin Preserve, and explore the vibrant streets of Thimphu. You'll then stay overnight at your hotel in Thimphu.

Thimphu-Paro International Airport: On the final day of your Bhutan adventure, you'll enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel before checking out. Depending on your flight schedule, you might have some time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing in Thimphu. You'll then transfer to the airport for your departure, taking with you cherished memories of Bhutan’s stunning landscapes and warm hospitality. Safe travels and we hope to welcome you back soon!

The total cost of the tour will vary based on the number of days, PAX, types of activities, accommodation & fooding, and the places you intend to visit. Our final rates will be shared based on your itinerary requirements.

Payment Terms & Cancellation Policy

Payment Terms

To confirm your tour with Found Bhutan Tours and Treks, the full payment for the tour package is required before the approval of your VISA.

Tour Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellation of tour in less than 7 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - No Refund.
Cancellation of tour in between 7 to 14 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - 50% of the total tour cost will be refunded.
Cancellation of tour in between 15 to 30 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - 80% of the total tour cost will be refunded.
Cancellation of the tour in more than 30 days prior to arrival in Bhutan - 100% of the total tour cost will be refunded.

Flight Ticket Cancellation & Refund Policy

The Flight ticket cancellation & refund policy shall be subject to the respective Airline's cancellation policies.

Rescheduling Tour Dates

You may reschedule your travel dates free of charge; however, based on your revised travel dates, the minimum daily rates, accommodation charges, and airline fees may change.

Notes

For any refunds, the applicable transaction charges shall be levied from the beneficiary.
The Bhutan SDF will be fully refunded by the Department of Immigration. However, the VISA fee is non-refundable.
