Tentative Itinerary

At Found Bhutan Tours and Treks, we do not take our guests on a virtual tour before arriving in Bhutan. We want our guests to fully explore and experience Bhutan first-hand. Therefore, we keep our itinerary intentionally concise. Our itineraries are always customisable — shorten or extend your trip at any time.

Accommodation

Amankora Thimphu

Highlight

Scenic Himalayan arrival flight

One of the most breathtaking mountain flights in the world, the journey to Paro offers a continuously shifting panorama of some of the planet's highest peaks. Once customs procedures are complete, your Found Bhutan representative will meet you at the Paro airport exit and escort you to Amankora Thimphu.

Settle into your suite, enjoy a welcome drink, and let the unhurried pace of Bhutan begin. Your Aman Guide will introduce you to the lodge and outline your personalised programme for the days ahead.

Accommodation

Amankora Thimphu

Highlights

Tashichho Dzong, Arts & Crafts, Bhutan Post

Discover Thimphu's cultural and historic tapestry. Explore Tashichho Dzong — the majestic fortress housing the King's throne room and central government offices, initially built in 1641 and reconstructed in the 1960s under the supervision of the third king. Visit Pangri Zampa, the ancient Cheri Goemba monastery, and the celebrated School for Arts and Crafts where students master the thirteen traditional arts of Bhutan. Stop at the Bhutan Post Office Headquarters for a unique opportunity to create a personalised postage stamp as a keepsake.

In the late afternoon, try your hand at traditional archery — Bhutan's national sport — before returning to Amankora Thimphu for a hot stone bath and dinner.

Accommodation

Amankora Paro

Highlights

Kyichu Lhakhang, Paro Dzong, Ta Dzong

Embark on the scenic drive from Amankora Thimphu to Amankora Paro. Optionally, begin with a visit to the historic Kyichu Lhakhang — one of Bhutan's oldest monasteries, dating back to 659 AD and a significant symbol of the kingdom's Buddhist heritage. Explore the ancient Jowo Sakyamuni statue and the magical orange tree that bears fruit year-round. In the afternoon, hike to the National Museum (Ta Dzong) and the majestic Paro Dzong, which offers panoramic views across the valley and hosts the annual Paro Tsechu religious festival.

Check in to Amankora Paro, set in a pine forest above the valley. The lodge's deep-soaking stone baths and candlelit dining make for an unforgettable first evening in Paro.

Accommodation

Amankora Paro

Trek

~5–6 hrs return · 900m cliff face

This is the most extraordinary day of your Bhutan journey. Drive to Satsam Chorten, the base of Tiger's Nest Monastery, and begin the ascent through stunning pine forest past trees draped in Spanish moss and occasional groves of prayer flags fluffing in the mountain breeze. Paro Taktsang clings to a sheer rock cliff that plunges 900 metres into the valley below — one of the most dramatic sacred sites on earth.

Amankora arranges a packed gourmet picnic lunch at the viewpoint café, with Aman-quality provisions to refuel mid-hike. Return to the lodge for a restorative massage and a private celebratory dinner.
