In the afternoon, enjoy a hike to the National Museum (Ta Dzong), home to an exceptional collection of ancient artifacts, before descending to explore the formidable Paro Dzong with its sweeping panoramas over the valley. Today's centrepiece is one of the most awe-inspiring hikes on earth — Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched impossibly on a sheer cliff 900 metres above the valley. The trek takes approximately 2.5 hours each way, with an option to rest at the halfway viewpoint terrace or ride a horse (self-paying) to the Taktsang Cafeteria for a memorable panoramic lunch. After the hike, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest monasteries built in 659 AD, marking the very origins of Buddhism in the country.
