Bhutan Spirit
Sanctuary

7 Days / 6 Nights All-Inclusive Wellness Neyphu Valley, Paro

Overview

Updated July 2026

Bhutan's Only All-Inclusive Wellness Resort

Every other luxury circuit in Bhutan treats the spa as an optional add-on. Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary treats it as the entire point — spa treatments, daily yoga, and a consultation with a traditional Bhutanese medicine doctor are bundled into the rate from the first night, not priced separately. Set in the pine-forested Neyphu Valley, 20 minutes from Paro airport, it's the only property of its kind in the country, and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

This 7-day itinerary uses the Sanctuary as a base for the western Bhutan highlights — Thimphu, Punakha, and the Tiger's Nest hike — but also builds in a genuine wellness day with no excursion at all, plus a day trip to Haa Valley over Chele La, Bhutan's highest motorable pass.

Why This Sanctuary

What Makes It Different

🧘

Genuinely All-Inclusive

Spa treatments and meals are bundled into the nightly rate — not optional extras priced à la carte, unlike every other luxury property in the country.

🩺

Traditional Medicine, Not a Spa Menu

A private consultation with an in-house drungtsho (traditional doctor) on arrival genuinely shapes your treatments for the week, not a generic spa list.

🏔

The Widest Reach of Any 5-Day Circuit

Haa Valley and Chele La Pass are on this itinerary — neither the Amankora nor Six Senses 5-day circuits leave Thimphu and Paro.

A Real Rest Day, By Design

One full day with zero excursions — built entirely around the spa, yoga, and on-site activities. No other Bhutan luxury circuit does this deliberately.

The Itinerary

Day by Day

1

Arrive Paro, Transfer to the Sanctuary

Paro Airport → Neyphu Valley (≈20 min)
Transfer ~20 minutes
Pace Arrival day

A short drive from Paro's airport into the pine-covered Neyphu Valley, where the Sanctuary sits with sweeping valley views. On arrival, a welcome ritual — candle-lighting at the entrance shrine — and a private consultation with the in-house traditional medicine doctor (drungtsho), who reads your pulse and designs a personalised wellness plan for the week using Bhutanese herbal medicine. Overnight at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary.

This consultation genuinely shapes the rest of your stay — the doctor's recommendations feed directly into which treatments and herbal remedies you're offered over the following days.
2

Thimphu Day Trip

Neyphu Valley → Thimphu → Neyphu Valley
Drive Time ~1 hour each way
Pace Full sightseeing day

Tashichho Dzong, the 52-metre Buddha Dordenma statue, the National Memorial Chorten, and the Motithang Takin Preserve fill the day in Bhutan's capital, with a return to the Sanctuary in the evening for a herbal-based wellness treatment — massage, hot stone bath, or herbal compress, based on your consultation. Overnight at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary.

3

Punakha Day Trip via Dochula Pass

Neyphu Valley → Dochula Pass → Punakha → Neyphu Valley
Drive Time ~2.5 hours each way
Dochula Pass 3,100 m

Dochula Pass and its 108 memorial chortens en route to Punakha Dzong, at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, followed by Chimi Lhakhang, the 15th-century fertility temple reached on foot through rice terraces. It's a long day on the road, but the return each evening to the same wellness treatments and the same bed means less packing and unpacking than a moving circuit. Overnight at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary.

This is the longest single day of the trip — roughly 5 hours of driving round trip. Ask about splitting it with an earlier departure if you'd rather not rush the Punakha sightseeing.
4

Haa Valley & Chele La Pass

Neyphu Valley → Chele La Pass (3,988 m) → Haa Valley
Chele La Pass 3,988 m — highest motorable pass in Bhutan
Region Haa Valley

A drive over Chele La, Bhutan's highest motorable mountain pass, strung with prayer flags and — on a clear day — framing views of Jomolhari and the wider Himalayan range. Beyond it lies Haa Valley, one of the least-visited regions in the country, opened to tourism only in 2002. Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple) anchor the valley's spiritual history. Overnight at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary.

Haa Valley sees a fraction of the visitors Paro and Thimphu do. If quiet, uncrowded Bhutan is what you're after, this is the single best day on the itinerary for it.
5

Tiger's Nest Hike

Paro Taktsang hike (4–5 hrs round trip)
Hike Time 4–5 hrs round trip
Monastery Elevation 3,120 m

The hike every Bhutan trip builds toward. Paro Taktsang clings to a cliff face 900 metres above the valley floor, with a teahouse roughly halfway offering the first full view across the gorge. Starting early avoids both the afternoon crowds and the exposed upper switchbacks in full sun. Back at the Sanctuary, the evening is built around recovery — a deep-tissue massage and time in the indoor heated pool. Overnight at Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary.

By day 5, most guests are well acclimatised — but budget the full 4–5 hours regardless. The Sanctuary's spa team times your evening treatment around exactly this kind of demanding day.
6

Wellness Day — No Excursion

Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary — full immersion
Pace Zero driving
Activities Yoga, spa, archery, pottery

The one day on this itinerary with no drive anywhere. Morning yoga overlooking the valley, a full spa programme built around your original consultation, and the option to try archery or Khuru (Bhutanese darts) in the apple orchard, a Bhutanese cooking class, or a session in the ceramics studio. This is the day that makes Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary genuinely different from every other property on this list — nowhere else on a Bhutan luxury circuit builds in a day with zero sightseeing by design.

If you'd rather swap this for a light half-day excursion instead, that's easy to arrange — but we'd genuinely encourage keeping at least one full day free. It's the day most returning guests say they'd add more of, not less.
7

Departure

Transfer to Paro International Airport
Transfer ~20 minutes
Pace Free morning, then transfer

A final relaxed morning at the Sanctuary — a last herbal tea from the spa garden, a closing consultation with the wellness doctor to take remedies home with you, or simply time on your terrace before the short transfer to Paro International Airport.

FAQ

Common Questions

What makes Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary different from Amankora or Six Senses?

It's Bhutan's only all-inclusive 5-star wellness resort — spa treatments, daily yoga, and meals are bundled into the rate rather than priced separately, and every stay opens with a consultation with a traditional Bhutanese medicine doctor.

Is Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary good for people who don't want a packed itinerary?

Yes — this is genuinely its strength. The 7-day itinerary includes one full day with no excursion at all, built entirely around the spa, yoga, and on-site activities.

How far is Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary from Paro airport?

About 20 minutes by car, in the Neyphu Valley near Paro — one of the shortest airport transfers of any luxury property in the country.

Does the itinerary include Punakha and Haa Valley?

Yes, both as day trips — Punakha on day 3, and Haa Valley via Chele La Pass on day 4, giving this itinerary a wider geographic range than the 5-day Amankora or Six Senses circuits.
