One Best Hotel,
Every Valley
Overview
Not One Brand's Circuit — the Best of All of Them
Every other luxury itinerary we run follows one brand's own network — Amankora's lodges, Six Senses' lodges, and so on. This one doesn't. It's a curated circuit that picks the single most compelling property in each valley, regardless of brand, and puts them together into one trip: Zhiwa Ling Heritage in Paro, Pemako in Thimphu, and COMO Uma in Punakha.
Fitting genuinely all nine of Bhutan's leading luxury properties into one week isn't realistic — Bhutan's mountain roads mean every extra valley costs hours of driving, and a trip built around ticking off brands rather than actually experiencing them defeats the point of calling it luxury. Three valleys, three carefully chosen hotels, and real time at each is the version of "the best of everything" that's actually worth booking.

Why These Three
The Reasoning, Not Just the Roster
Each property was chosen for a specific, practical reason tied to that valley — not just to feature a different logo at every stop.
Zhiwa Ling Heritage
The only wholly Bhutanese-owned luxury property in the country, and one of the shortest transfers to the Tiger's Nest trailhead of any hotel in Paro — a genuine practical edge for the hike that closes this trip. Hand-built by 60 local artisans over three years.
Pemako Thimphu
A fortress-inspired reimagining of the former Taj Tashi, sitting genuinely central to the capital — closer to Tashichhodzong and the city's landmarks than the outskirts properties. Part of the Tashi Group, Bhutan's largest conglomerate.
COMO Uma Punakha
Widely considered the most beautifully positioned hotel in the country — hillside villas with an infinity pool overlooking rice terraces and the Himalayan range, at the single most scenic stop on the whole circuit.
The Itinerary
Day by Day
1
Arrive Paro, Transfer to Zhiwa Ling Heritage
One of the shortest airport transfers of any luxury property in Bhutan. Check in to Zhiwa Ling Heritage — hand-carved woodwork, hand-knotted rugs, and a lobby that's a genuine tribute to Bhutanese craftsmanship, not a themed approximation of it. A light afternoon: the on-site tea house, or simply the 10-acre grounds. Overnight at Zhiwa Ling Heritage.
2
Paro Sightseeing, then Transfer to Thimphu
A morning covering Paro's essentials — Rinpung Dzong, Kyichu Lhakhang (one of Bhutan's oldest temples, 7th century), and Ta Dzong, the national museum — all a short drive from Zhiwa Ling. After lunch, the transfer to Thimphu and check-in to Pemako Thimphu, a fortress-inspired reimagining of the former Taj Tashi in the heart of the capital. A blessing ceremony with the hotel's resident monk marks the arrival. Overnight at Pemako Thimphu.
3
Thimphu Sightseeing
Tashichho Dzong, the 52-metre Buddha Dordenma statue, the National Memorial Chorten, and the Motithang Takin Preserve. Pemako's central location means less driving between sights than a hotel on the city's outskirts. Evening cocktails at Ara Bar or tea at Rimps Lounge. Overnight at Pemako Thimphu.
4
Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass
Dochula Pass and its 108 memorial chortens, then down into the warmer Punakha valley. Check-in to COMO Uma Punakha — hillside Valley View rooms or a free-standing private villa, each overlooking rice terraces and the river below. In the afternoon: Punakha Dzong at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, widely considered Bhutan's most beautiful fortress, followed by Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple. Overnight at COMO Uma Punakha.
5
A Day at COMO Uma Punakha
The one day on this circuit built around simply being at the hotel. COMO Shambhala treatments at the standalone spa, time by the infinity pool overlooking the valley, and — if you're up for it — a walk across Bhutan's longest suspension bridge nearby. Dinner at Bukhari, the property's restaurant serving fresh, locally sourced Bhutanese and international dishes. Overnight at COMO Uma Punakha.
6
Punakha to Paro, Return to Zhiwa Ling
The transfer back to Paro, closing the loop and returning to Zhiwa Ling Heritage for a final night — positioned for tomorrow's hike with one of the shortest possible transfers to the trailhead. A lighter evening: Paro's handicraft shops, or simply rest after Punakha's slower pace. Overnight at Zhiwa Ling Heritage.
7
Tiger's Nest Hike & Departure
The hike to Paro Taktsang, Bhutan's most iconic monastery, clinging to a cliff 900 metres above the valley floor. Zhiwa Ling's proximity to the trailhead means less transfer time eating into the morning than from most other properties. Transfer to Paro International Airport for departure.
