Bhutan Tour
from Netherlands
From Amsterdam — from the flattest country in Europe to the highest kingdom on earth.
Bhutan Tour from
Netherlands
The Netherlands is one of the world’s most progressive countries — a society built on pragmatism, environmental consciousness, cycling culture, and a deep tradition of global exploration. Dutch travellers who have explored the world arrive in Bhutan and find a country that has solved the riddle that confronts every modern society: how to develop without destroying what makes life worth living.
From Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), the most convenient routing is KLM or Air India to Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport (~8–9 hours), then Druk Air to Paro (~2 hours). Alternatively route via Dubai with Emirates. Total journey approximately 11–13 hours.
Found Bhutan is a licensed local agency based in Thimphu. Dutch travellers bring directness, genuine curiosity, and a progressive environmental ethic that Bhutan rewards at every level. Every itinerary is built from scratch. EUR pricing available on request.
Visa & Entry for
Netherlands Travellers
All international visitors to Bhutan — except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals — must obtain a visa before travelling. The visa is applied through your licensed Bhutanese tour operator (Found Bhutan), costs USD 40 per person, and takes approximately 5–10 working days. Once approved, a visa clearance letter is emailed to you before departure.
Documents required: Valid Dutch (EU) passport with at least 6 months validity. Your Found Bhutan visa clearance letter. Routing via Delhi may require an Indian transit visa if exiting the airport — routing via Dubai avoids this.
Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): USD 100 per person per night — a Government of Bhutan levy. Included in all Found Bhutan packages. EUR quotes available on request.
Flights to Bhutan
from Netherlands
Paro International Airport is Bhutan’s only international airport and one of the world’s most dramatic. From the Netherlands, KLM or Air India fly Amsterdam–Delhi directly (~8–9 hours), then Druk Air to Paro (~2 hours). Amsterdam Schiphol is an excellent hub with minimal connection times.
Approx. 8–9 hours direct. Then Druk Air DEL–PBH (~2 hrs). Total ~11 hours.
Approx. 6.5 hours. Then Air India DEL (~3 hrs) + Druk Air to Paro. Alternative.
Approx. 2 hours. Several flights per week. Book 8 weeks ahead during peak season.
Booking Tip for Dutch Travellers
KLM and Air India both fly Amsterdam–Delhi direct — the simplest routing. Book Druk Air at least 8 weeks ahead during peak season. Dutch summer holidays (July–August) coincide with Bhutan’s monsoon — plan for spring or autumn instead. EUR pricing available from Found Bhutan.
Why Dutch Travellers
Love Bhutan
The Country That Solved the Problem
The Netherlands has been a global leader in environmental policy, progressive governance, and quality of life. Bhutan has done something even more radical: constitutionally mandated forest protection, carbon-negative status, and a governing philosophy that explicitly measures success by happiness. Dutch travellers who care about how societies are built find Bhutan’s achievement genuinely inspiring.
From the Flattest Country to the Highest Kingdom
The Netherlands is famously flat. Bhutan is the most dramatically elevated inhabited country on earth — Himalayan peaks above 7,000m, passes at 4,000–5,300m, valleys dropping 4,000m. The contrast in landscape is total and Dutch travellers find the scale genuinely humbling.
Environmental Values in Practice
The Dutch environmental movement is serious and evidence-based. Bhutan’s conservation achievement — constitutional 60%+ forest cover, the only carbon-negative country on earth, wildlife corridors for snow leopards and red pandas — is the most complete environmental achievement of any nation. Dutch environmentalists find it both inspiring and instructive.
Sacred Architecture Without Tourism Damage
Dutch travellers who have seen the environmental impact of mass tourism in Amsterdam find Bhutan’s visitor model — high value, low volume, no budget tourism — both philosophically coherent and practically effective. The monasteries are genuinely uncrowded.
Cycling Culture Meets Trekking Country
The Dutch cycling culture reflects a preference for human-powered movement through landscape. Bhutan’s trekking routes — from the Druk Path to the Snowman Trek — offer the same quality of direct landscape encounter at Himalayan scale.
Photography of Extraordinary Quality
Dutch photography has a world-class tradition. Bhutan offers subjects unavailable in Europe — festival mask dances, dzong architecture at golden hour, Himalayan panoramas, monks at prayer. A photographer’s destination of the highest order.
Luxury That Justifies the Distance
Six Senses Bhutan, Amankora, and Uma by COMO deliver world-class quality in settings of extraordinary beauty. EUR quotes available on request.
Dutch Directness Meets Bhutanese Warmth
Dutch directness and Bhutanese warmth are a surprisingly compatible combination. The Bhutanese are warm but not obsequious; direct but not blunt. Dutch guests consistently describe their guides as among the finest they’ve encountered.
