Hong Kong residents have one of the highest rates of outbound travel in Asia — and good reason. The city's extraordinary intensity creates a powerful appetite for its opposite. Bhutan is, by every measure, the opposite of Hong Kong: no billboards, no crowds, no noise, no commercial pressure. Himalayan valleys, ancient monasteries, pristine rivers, and a culture that has chosen to remain itself.

Via Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Bhutan is approximately 7 hours from Hong Kong — shorter than many European destinations. A 5-day Bhutan trip is genuinely viable, covering Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha including Tiger's Nest. Found Bhutan handles every detail from Hong Kong — visa clearance letter, guide, accommodation, meals, and transport.

Whether you're planning a cultural escape, a family adventure, a luxury honeymoon, or a serious Himalayan trek, Bhutan offers an experience that Hong Kong simply cannot provide. Our locally based team in Thimphu designs every itinerary from scratch — no fixed departures, no generic packages.

Visa & Entry for
Hong Kong Travellers

Entry Requirements

Visa Required — Apply in Advance + USD 100/Night SDF

Hong Kong SAR and BN(O) passport holders must apply for a Bhutan visa in advance through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator. Bhutan does not issue visas on arrival for international tourists. Found Bhutan handles the entire visa application process — you will receive your visa clearance letter before departure, and the official visa stamp is placed in your passport on arrival at Paro. A Sustainable Development Fee of USD 100 per person per night also applies and is included in all Found Bhutan packages.

All international visitors to Bhutan — except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals — must obtain a visa before travelling. Bhutan does not issue visas on arrival for international tourists. The visa is applied through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator (like Found Bhutan), costs USD 40 per person, and takes approximately 5–10 working days to process. Once approved, a visa clearance letter is emailed to you before departure. The official visa stamp is placed in your passport on arrival at Paro Airport.

Documents required: Valid Hong Kong SAR or BN(O) passport with at least 6 months validity. Your Found Bhutan visa clearance letter. HKSAR and BN(O) holders do not require an Indian transit visa for airside connections via Delhi.

Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): USD 100 per person per night — a Government of Bhutan levy. Included in all Found Bhutan packages. HKD quotes available on request.

Why Hong Kong Residents
Love Bhutan

The Ultimate Escape from Urban Intensity

Hong Kong is one of the world's most intense cities. Bhutan is its exact opposite — no advertising, no crowds, no commercial pressure. Himalayan valleys, ancient monasteries, and a culture that moves at a different pace. For Hong Kong residents, Bhutan offers a quality of silence and space that is almost impossible to find at home.

Closer Than Most Hong Kong Residents Realise

Via Bangkok, Bhutan is approximately 7 hours from Hong Kong — shorter than many European destinations. A 5-day Bhutan trip from Hong Kong is genuinely viable, covering Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha.

Living Buddhist Culture

Buddhism is present in Hong Kong but largely as heritage. In Bhutan it is daily life — monks at prayer at dawn, festivals that bring communities together, and a monastery culture unchanged for centuries. Hong Kong residents with Buddhist heritage find Bhutan's living faith immediately moving.

Luxury That Meets Hong Kong Standards

Six Senses Bhutan, Amankora, and Uma by COMO deliver world-class design, exceptional cuisine, and spa facilities in extraordinary mountain settings that no Hong Kong hotel can match.

Himalayan Trekking from a City Base

Hong Kong has a strong hiking culture. Bhutan offers a completely different scale: the Druk Path Trek (5 days), Jomolhari (9 days), and the legendary Snowman Trek — with almost no other trekkers on most routes.

Photography Unlike Anything in Asia

Festival mask dances, dzong architecture at golden hour, Himalayan panoramas, monks at prayer — subjects unavailable anywhere else. For Hong Kong photographers used to street photography, Bhutan's cultural richness opens a new creative world.

The Most Responsible Tourism Possible

For HK residents concerned about environmental impact, Bhutan is the world's most defensible destination — carbon-negative, constitutional forest protection, and a visitor model designed to prevent mass tourism.

Family Travel at Its Best

Bhutan is genuinely safe and deeply family-friendly. Children find dzong fortresses and Tiger's Nest endlessly engaging. The private tour format adapts entirely to your family's pace and interests.

Sample 7-Day
Itinerary

Via Bangkok, a 5-day trip from Hong Kong is genuinely viable. Every Found Bhutan tour is built around your interests, travel style, and dates — we never run fixed departure group tours.
  • Arrival at Paro Airport: Your Found Bhutan guide meets you. The contrast with Hong Kong begins the moment the aircraft banks through the Himalayan ridges on approach.
  • Rinpung Dzong: Paro's 17th-century fortress-monastery. Sacred architecture at a scale and in a setting that has no parallel in the city you left this morning.
  • Welcome Dinner: Traditional Bhutanese food — Ema Datshi, red rice, buckwheat bread. Bold flavours, genuine mountain cooking.
  • Buddha Dordenma: The colossal gilded Buddha overlooking Thimphu — a spiritual counterpoint to the skyline you know.
  • Tashichho Dzong: A working fortress shared by monks and government ministers.
  • Thimphu Town: No traffic lights, no advertising, no chains. The most unusual capital in Asia.
  • Dochula Pass (3,100m): 108 memorial chortens and, on clear days, the complete eastern Himalayan range on the horizon.
  • Punakha Dzong: Built at the confluence of two rivers — the most photographed building in Bhutan.
  • Chimi Lhakhang: The Fertility Temple, approached through golden rice paddies.
  • Gangtey Monastery: A place of silence that Hong Kong residents find immediately extraordinary.
  • Valley Walk: Through marshland and birch forest. In winter, black-necked cranes winter here from Tibet.
  • Crane Conservation Centre: Conservation in action — a powerful counterpoint to Hong Kong's density.
  • Kyichu Lhakhang: One of Bhutan's oldest temples, 7th century.
  • Craft Shopping: Handwoven textiles, thangka paintings — unique gifts unavailable in Hong Kong.
  • Traditional Hot Stone Bath: A dotsho — restorative in a way no city spa can replicate.
  • Tiger's Nest Trek: The 4-hour round trek to Paro Taktsang. The monastery clings to a 900-metre cliff at 3,120m — one of the great walks of Asia.
  • Taktsang Monastery: Four sacred temples in the cliff face. Views across the Paro Valley that are impossible to describe adequately.
  • Farewell Dinner: A last dinner celebrating the journey with your guide.
  • Morning at leisure: A final Paro morning — mountains, prayer flags, mountain air.
  • Transfer to Paro Airport: Return via Bangkok to Hong Kong. Same-day arrival.
  • Until next time: Hong Kong residents consistently say Bhutan makes their city feel different when they return.

We offer 5-day, 7-day, 10-day, and fully custom durations. Every itinerary is adjusted to your interests, fitness level, and travel style.
