Of all the countries in Asia, Singapore has one of the most convenient connections to Bhutan. Druk Air operates direct flights from Singapore Changi Airport to Paro three times a week — making Bhutan genuinely accessible for a 5 or 7 day trip without the long-haul commitment that Western travellers face. For Singaporeans and expats based in Singapore, Bhutan is one of Asia's most rewarding and undervisited destinations.

Found Bhutan is a licensed local agency based in Thimphu. We handle every detail of your trip — visa clearance letter, permits, accommodation, guides, vehicles, and all meals — so you step off the plane in Paro with nothing to arrange. Our guides are born-and-raised Bhutanese with an inside knowledge of the country that no Singaporean tour operator can replicate.

Whether you're planning a long weekend extension, a week-long cultural escape, a honeymoon, or a family trip, Bhutan from Singapore offers extraordinary value for the travel time involved. The flight includes a brief technical stop in Guwahati, India — passengers remain on board and no India visa is required.

Visa & Entry for
Singapore Travellers

Entry Requirements

Visa on Arrival + USD 100/Night SDF

Singapore passport holders and expats based in Singapore receive a Bhutan visa on arrival at Paro Airport. No advance embassy application is required. A Sustainable Development Fee of USD 100 per person per night applies and is included in all Found Bhutan packages.

Bhutan does not issue visas in advance through embassies. Instead, your visa is issued on arrival at Paro International Airport, subject to holding a visa clearance letter from a licensed Bhutanese tour operator. Found Bhutan provides this letter upon booking confirmation — you present it to Druk Air at check-in counter T3 Row 2 at Changi, and to immigration on arrival in Paro.

Documents required: Valid Singapore passport (or your home country passport if you are an expat) with at least 6 months validity. Your Found Bhutan visa clearance letter. Note: the flight includes a technical stop in Guwahati, India — passengers stay on board and no Indian visa is required for transit.

Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): USD 100 per person per night. This is a Government of Bhutan levy — not a tour operator charge — that funds free education, free healthcare, and environmental conservation across the kingdom. It is included transparently in all Found Bhutan package quotes.

Why Singapore Travellers
Love Bhutan

The Most Direct Route in Southeast Asia

With 3x weekly direct Druk Air flights from Changi, Singapore is the best-connected Southeast Asian city for Bhutan travel. A 5-day trip to Bhutan from Singapore is genuinely viable — shorter than many long-haul destinations.

A Complete Contrast to Singapore Life

After the intensity of Singapore, Bhutan's pace feels extraordinary — no crowds, no noise, no commercial signage. Pristine mountain valleys, monasteries perched on cliffs, and a culture that moves at its own rhythm. A true reset.

Living Buddhist Culture

Buddhism is daily life in Bhutan — not a museum exhibit. Monks chant at dawn, prayer wheels spin at every corner, and Tshechu festivals bring entire communities together in ritual unchanged for centuries. Nothing in Southeast Asia compares.

Tiger's Nest — Asia's Most Dramatic Trek

Paro Taktsang — the monastery clinging to a 900-metre cliff face — is one of the most extraordinary places in Asia. At 5.5 hours from Singapore, it's closer than most people realise.

Carbon Negative — Truly Sustainable

Bhutan is the world's only carbon-negative country. For environmentally conscious Singapore travellers, visiting Bhutan is an act of genuine sustainable tourism — a destination that has made conservation its national identity.

Photography Unlike Anywhere in Southeast Asia

Dzong fortresses at dawn, masked festival dances, black-necked cranes in winter mist, Himalayan panoramas — Bhutan's photography subjects are unique to the kingdom and available nowhere else in the region.

No Mass Tourism

The SDF model limits visitor numbers and ensures Bhutan never becomes overcrowded. Singapore travellers who value authentic, uncrowded experiences find Bhutan's approach deeply refreshing — and increasingly rare in Asia.

World-Class Luxury Lodges

Six Senses, Amankora, Uma by COMO — brands that Singapore's luxury travellers know — operate some of their finest properties in Bhutan. The quality of accommodation rivals the best in Southeast Asia, set against infinitely more dramatic scenery.

Best Time to Visit from Singapore

Peak Season: March–May and September–November — festivals, clear Himalayan views, ideal trekking weather. Shoulder Season: December–February — quieter, crisp, atmospheric. Avoid: June–August for trekking (monsoon), though cultural tours remain excellent year-round.

Sample 7-Day
Itinerary

This is a sample itinerary. Every Found Bhutan tour is built around your interests, travel dates, and style — we never run fixed group departures. Singapore's direct connection to Paro makes a 5-day trip fully viable for those with limited time.
  • Arrival at Paro Airport: Your Found Bhutan guide meets you on arrival. The descent into Paro — the aircraft banking between Himalayan ridges before touching down in the valley — is one of the most dramatic landings in commercial aviation, and the perfect first impression of Bhutan.
  • Rinpung Dzong: After settling in, visit Paro's magnificent 17th-century fortress-monastery — the carved wooden galleries and whitewashed walls set against the valley floor are immediately unlike anything in Singapore or Southeast Asia.
  • Welcome Dinner: A traditional Bhutanese dinner at your lodge — Ema Datshi (chilli and cheese), Hoentay (buckwheat dumplings), and Red Rice. Flavours that exist nowhere else.
  • Buddha Dordenma: The giant gilded Buddha overlooking Thimphu — one of the largest in the world. Visit at sunrise for extraordinary light and no crowds.
  • Tashichho Dzong: Bhutan's seat of government — a stunning whitewashed fortress at the Wang Chhu River, best visited late afternoon when monks return from prayer.
  • National Institute for Zorig Chusum: Watch students training in Bhutan's 13 traditional arts — thangka painting, wood carving, weaving, and lacquerwork. A living tradition unlike anything in Singapore's cultural landscape.
  • Weekend Market: If visiting Friday–Sunday, Thimphu's open-air market is unmissable — the full colour and energy of Bhutanese daily life in one place.
  • Dochula Pass (3,100m): Drive over the pass with its 108 memorial chortens and, on clear days, a sweeping panorama of the eastern Himalayan range including Gangkar Puensum — the world's highest unclimbed peak.
  • Punakha Dzong: Built at the confluence of two rivers, Punakha Dzong is the most photographed building in Bhutan. The ancient wooden suspension bridge beside it offers the finest photography angle.
  • Chimi Lhakhang: The Fertility Temple — a short walk through golden rice paddies where couples seek blessings for a happy family life.
  • River Rafting (Optional): A gentle raft on the Mo Chhu past valley walls and terraced fields — one of the most relaxing afternoons in Bhutan.
  • Gangtey Monastery: One of Bhutan's most important Nyingmapa monasteries, perched on a ridge above the glacial Phobjikha Valley — a place of exceptional peace and extraordinary views.
  • Valley Nature Walk: A gentle 3km walk through marshland, birch forest, and traditional farmhouses. In winter (October–March), endangered black-necked cranes migrate here from Tibet.
  • Black-Necked Crane Centre: Bhutan's internationally acclaimed conservation programme for one of Asia's rarest cranes — a symbol of the kingdom's deep environmental commitment.
  • Drive back to Paro: Return from Phobjikha through the changing mountain landscapes — a scenic half-day drive through some of Bhutan's finest countryside.
  • Kyichu Lhakhang: One of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in the 7th century. Small, intimate, filled with butter lamps and the scent of juniper incense.
  • Paro Town Walk & Shopping: The best selection of Bhutanese handicrafts in the country — handwoven textiles, wooden masks, thangka paintings, and locally produced food to bring back to Singapore.
  • Traditional Hot Stone Bath: A dotsho — Bhutan's ancient therapeutic bath heated with river stones and medicinal herbs. The perfect preparation for tomorrow's Tiger's Nest trek.
  • Tiger's Nest Trek: Start early for the 4-hour round trek through blue pine forest to Paro Taktsang — the monastery perched 900m above the valley on a sheer cliff face. One of the great walks of Asia.
  • Taktsang Monastery: Four sacred temples carved into the cliff, filled with murals, butter lamps, and the sound of monks at prayer. The view from the terrace back down the valley is among the finest anywhere in Asia.
  • Picnic Lunch at the Viewpoint: Tiger's Nest perfectly framed across the gorge — quite possibly the best lunch spot in Asia.
  • Farewell Dinner: A final dinner in Paro celebrating the journey — traditional Bhutanese food, local ara rice wine, and good conversation with your guide.
  • Morning at Leisure: A final walk through Paro, last-minute shopping, or breakfast on the lodge terrace with the valley below.
  • Transfer to Paro Airport: Your Found Bhutan guide will be with you until departure. The return flight to Singapore via Guwahati arrives the same afternoon — you are back in Singapore the same day you leave Paro.
  • Until next time: Almost every Singapore guest we host starts planning their return before they land at Changi. Bhutan has that effect.

This is a sample 7-day itinerary. Singapore's direct connection means a 5-day trip (Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Tiger's Nest) is also very viable for those with limited leave. Ask us about our 5-day and 10-day options.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Yes. Druk Air (Royal Bhutan Airlines) operates direct flights from Singapore Changi Airport (Terminal 3, Row 2) to Paro International Airport three times a week — on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The flight takes approximately 5.5 hours and includes a brief technical stop in Guwahati, India, where passengers remain on board. No Indian visa is required for this transit.
Singapore citizens receive a Bhutan visa on arrival at Paro Airport — no advance embassy application is required. To obtain this visa, you need a clearance letter from a licensed Bhutanese tour operator, which Found Bhutan provides upon booking confirmation. You present the printed letter to Druk Air at check-in and to Bhutanese immigration on arrival. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.
The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is USD 100 per person per night, levied by the Government of Bhutan. It funds free education, free healthcare, and environmental conservation across the kingdom — and is the reason Bhutan remains one of the least-crowded and most authentic destinations in Asia. Found Bhutan includes the SDF in all package quotes. Quotes in SGD are available on request.
Given the direct flight connection, even a 5-night trip from Singapore is genuinely rewarding — covering Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, and Tiger's Nest. Seven nights is the ideal first visit, adding Phobjikha Valley and a more relaxed pace. Ten nights is excellent for those wanting to explore more deeply or add trekking. Singapore's position means Bhutan requires no stopover and no long-haul fatigue.
The best times are March–May (spring, Paro Tshechu festival, rhododendron blooms) and September–November (autumn, clear Himalayan views, Thimphu Tshechu festival). Singapore's public holidays in October and November align well with Bhutan's peak season. Winter (December–February) is quieter and very atmospheric. June–August monsoon is best avoided for trekking, though cultural tours remain excellent.
Absolutely. Found Bhutan works with travellers of all nationalities based in Singapore — Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and expats on employment passes alike. Your visa clearance letter and tour documentation are issued based on your passport nationality. We'll advise on any specific entry requirements for your home country passport when you enquire.
